Sacramento Central Library, Family History Day Exhibitor

It is a pleasure to introduce the Sacramento Central Library as an exhibitor at Family History day at the California State Archives.

The Sacramento Central Library is happy to offer several free Genealogy programs and services to the public throughout the year. In addition, the various branches of the library system periodically offer genealogy programs. Central Library offers these services to the public:

• Ten lectures given by well-known genealogy specialists throughout northern California. Three series of lectures are offered during the year, during the months of January, May and September. Each series includes three lectures. A separate presentation on beginning genealogy is offered late in the month of February. The lectures are held on Sundays at Central Library, 1:30 – 3:00 pm, in the West Meeting Room.

• The Book a Genealogist program. Central Library is fortunate to have the assistance of a volunteer genealogist, who meets individually with people needing help with their research. The volunteer is available at the library on Tuesday afternoons. Registration is required for these half hour appointments, by calling 916-264-2920. Registrations can also be made in person at the library or by visiting the library’s website at http://www.saclibrary.org/.

• An extensive collection of non-circulating genealogy reference books and periodicals, available for use by the public during library open hours. The majority of these books belong to the Genealogical Association of Sacramento. The collection is located on the 4th floor of Central Library.

• Genealogy Book Bulletin, a monthly online genealogy newsletter. The genealogy book bulletin is available on the library’s website at www.saclibrary.org. Each newsletter contains information about local genealogy programs planned for that month, along with related books and websites. You can sign up to receive the monthly genealogy book bulletin in your e-mail account.

• The library subscribes to two genealogical databases for the public’s use: Ancestry Library Edition and New England Ancestors.org. Both of these databases can be used at any branch of the Sacramento Public Library system.

• Occasional genealogy computer classes, taught at Central Library by library staff. Currently, classes being taught include Introduction to Online Genealogy and Introduction to Ancestry Library Edition.

Beth Daugherty, Genealogy Coordinator at Central Library, will be available at the library's exhibit to answer your questions about these programs.
